Ready, Set, Pray!

Have you prayed much lately?
I've been trying to find more time to pray but it's hard because I need a quiet place to clear my mind for prayer. When I commute to and from work on the bus, I've discovered how to steal time for prayer. First I put on my earbuds and clear my mind by listening to Buddhist chants on my iPhone. The chants help me focus and to quiet those annoying monkeys that jump around in my mind. Next, I will either listen to hear what God says, or I just start talking with Him. Often I just thank Him. I have a lot to be thankful for: My mom is still alive; I have my Mr7; I have a wonderful man who loves me; I have my good health; and I'm looking forward to retiring next year. I'm definitely enjoying my bus commute!
I recently treated myself to some very cool sandalwood mala beads. I like fingering them when I repeat the Buddhist chants. I also finger the beads as I count my blessings.
Thank you for visiting my blog. I wish I had more time to blog.

Finding time isn't a problem, Nerima, though distraction is. I use Gregorian chant to clear my mind, as i just love it. I think you're so right that being thankful is important in prayer.

Lovely; you posted these on FB too, so they must be very important. I try to meditate by clearing my mind and just being. That seems to help. I miss my yoga classes.

Perpetua, Yes, distraction is a major obstacle to meditation. I'm training my mind to go into Clear Mode: I just start chanting the same mantra (either rapidly or slowly). It's actually beginning to work. When my mind gets clear (only briefly!), I say a couple prayers before the monkeys in my brain take over. It's a process.

Tut, One of the first things I'm doing when I retire is blog more, and take yoga lessons. *SIGH*
